You should *NOT* unpack the maps. If they have downloaded as .zip files then rename the whatever.zip to whatever.pk3 and drop the entire file into your mainta folder.
Not always as simple as changing the name(renaming a zip does not change the extension just the name).Try this extract the zip to a folder.Install winrar.Open folder and select all files(only select extracted files do not zip the root folder).right click and select add to archive.Tick zip and change extension to .pk3 instead of .zip this will create a pukka pk3 file

You been on the pop m8?
no comprehend.
A zip file will not show .zip in its name it will simple be called "whatever" putting .pk3 after the name will not change the extension.Using winrar you can effectively create your own pk3 files.Angie asked me to post here because you method of renaming didnt work for someone and I told her my way :)

Ah, I see now.
I tend to forget that a lot of people use XP default settings and don't see file extensions in Windows Explorer.
Granted you way would work but it's rather complex. Surely an easier way would be simply to change the file viewing options?
Open Windows Explorer. Goto Tools/Folder Options/View
Scroll down to 'hide file extensions for known file types' and untick that.
You will now see the .zip part of the file name and be able to do a full rename without problem.
see now you have put that instruction it will work but as most users keep default then your way wouldnt ;) we are both right yes my ways elaborate but it worked for everyone first time you needed to elaborate on your method ;)
